I can just imagine the hype that is going on in Australia about how close armageddon is now with all of these bushfires occurring.
by smiddy3 init brings to mind my niece when she see`s how dry the countryside is ,how armageddon must be so close..

Yeah, because nothing says "ARMAGEDDON!" like bush fires -- unless it is thunderstorms and floods.

Among the benefits of being an "ancient worthless" as I am (other than the incontrovertible facts of wisdom and mature manly good looks) is my perfect recall of prehistoric events.
One such event occurred on July 21, 1956, when the US TV series "Science Fiction Theatre" broadcast the episode titled "The Phantom Car (Season 2, Episode 14)" which explored just this subject. It was MAGNIFICENT!

Russell's followers in British Columbia?
by dubstepped inso i was interviewing a guy for a podcast episode today and he went and saw his grandmother over christmas to gather some history.
he wasn't raised a jw but it turns out his family was actually opposed to the jws because they went all the way back to russell.
according to him (from her stories), they refused to follow rutherford and that's where the split took place.

I don't have any information about the history of Bible Students/JWs in Canada, but I know there was a book published in Germany in 1928 the title of which is, in English, "The Desolations of the Sanctuary" written by Otto and Emile Sadlack, who were outspoken against Rutherford. English-language versions of this book are available on Lulu.com and Amazon.com.

Armageddon is now ALMOST as close as it was in 1975 - it is only a matter of centuries or decades, not weeks or years.
The Tribulation is closer than the inside of your eyelid!™

How old is old?
by joey jojo inhaving a conversation with a pimi elder and i asked him how he deals with the fact that he never expected to get old.
i get the feeling that some dubs still have the original generation explanation hard-wired, even though they claim to accept the new version.
so my question is, how old do you have to be to be considered old?

picture slides from the 60's and 70's
by nonjwspouse ini have been putting together a legacy box ( these are local guys that created this huge company by the way) and getting my jw in laws old 35mm slides put together with bar codes to ship off for them to be digitized and returned.
curiously, the box of 25 slides that had some from the 1975 assembly had the whole batch of assembly slides missing from the box!
i am so curious if they destroyed them!

Why does he stay in?
by Probablyshouldrun ini was seeing a jw man for about a year and a half until l broke it off with him last week.
we met on a dating site.
he shouldn’t have been on there, of course, but he was lonely.

Probablyshouldrun asked me, "My question is, why does he stay in if he doesn’t believe in and follow all the ridiculous rules?"
Thanks for asking! There are a few good reasons:
1. He's an idiot.
2. Some - actually a surprisingly large percentage of JWs - develop a unique side-set of theological axioms that basically goes like this -- "Jehovah can see EVERYTHING you do and can peer into the content of your heart in minute particularity, but I will survive Armageddon because >> I << can fool the old man.
3. There may be a small minority of JWs who have convinced themselves that JW-ism is THE BEST WAY TO LIVE©, even if they can't keep the rules and seriously expect to die at Armageddon.
I was an active for about 20 years starting at age 7, and I have known all three varieties of JW. I was almost a true believer (with flaws), but I couldn't stand being one any longer after I learned about pedophilia in my local congregation (I was a pioneer and a deacon) that the elders swept under the rug.
PS - I agree that "missionary dating" is a worthy term for the apostate lexicon. Well done!
